Elegy to an iPhone- in the Shadow of Walt Whitman

O iPhone! my iPhone! Our link is sadly gone,
We’d come so far together, shared so much fun,
Sleek and slim, my mini-mirror,
My shiny shadow, always a glimmer:
            But oh no! no! no!
            You shimmied and slid,
            Where did you go,
When I forgot to shut the lid?

O iPhone! my iPhone! Rise up from that shallow tide,
Rise up from the wicked whirlpool, please do not hide,
Show me again your bright, witty face,
Now I know: I should have bought that waterproof case.
            Here iPhone! Dear iPhone!
            Know that you’re not alone,
            I reach in to rescue,
Although your light is gone.

My iPhone does not answer, its screen is black as ink,
Next time I’ll be more careful, when I am at the sink,
It does not hear my call nor feel my longing touch,
Next time I won’t suds up my hands so very much.
.           Exult O i-technicians,
But I am full of dread,
            My i-companion lies,
            Fallen, wet, and dead.
